If I haven’t made it clear yet, you should always hold on to a website or blog for a while before you decide to flip it. Holding it can only add value. One of the best ways to add value to website flipping or blog flipping, is to build a small optin list for each site or blog you have decided to sell.
In fact, in some cases the list might actually be worth more than the site itself, remember the saying, the money is in the list, nothing could be more true. Besides building some backlinks, which you could outsource anyway for less than $20, and besides doing correct on site seo, building a list is one of the greatest ways to add value, if not digits (as in from 3 digits to four digits) to your website’s or blog’s price. Look at it from the buyer’s perspective, they are not only getting the site, but they’re getting a fresh opt in list that, if they know what they are doing, they can grow and sell to time and time again.
So how do you build even a small list in a relatively short period of time?
Well, the first thing you need to get, if you don’t already have it, is an auto responder account. There are many good auto responder companies out there, but I can only recommend the one I use, Aweber. They are probably the most well known in the internet marketing space, and they offer a lot of great features to customize you opt-in forms as well as the functionality of the opt-in process, like sending people to a predefined page after confirming. This could be an oto page or a bonus page.
Speaking of bonuses, that is one of the tips to building a list fast. Basically, you’re bribing people to join your list by offering them a free gift to sign up. Lets go through some list building tips.
- Offer a free bonus that your niche will really want
- Set up separate Squeeze page just for building your list and build back links to it.
- Use that Squeeze page url, in your signature when posting on forums relative to your niche.
- Contact other website or blog owners in your niche and offer them your bonus in exchange for them sending out an email to their list — basically do a co registration giveaway event.
- Put optin forms not only on the side bare of your site but in posts as well
For example:
After a month or so, with the right promotion, you could have a couple of hundred subscribers that you have already mailed and and hopefully sold to as well. In fact if you can prove sales to your list you will automatically add hundreds of dollars to your site or blog’s price tag.
Again, when you’re building a site or blog always remember that you may one day want to sell it, if not definitely want to sell it. Look at it the same way a real estate investor would look at building a new house that he wants to sell. If adding a pool to the house costs X but the pool will add 3X to the property’s value, then its something that not only should be done but must be done to increase your ROI.
